About SPACE :
History

The Spartanburg Area Conservancy was founded in 1989 by citizens concerned over the loss of green areas and open space in Spartanburg County. Initial funding for SPACE was provided by the Spartanburg County Foundation.

SPACE is a private, not-for-profit land conservation organization whose purpose is to protect and preserve natural areas of ecological, historical, and aesthetic value to enhance the quality of life for all residents and future generations. Since 1989 we have protected 1185 acres, and helped facilitate the protection of 438 more acres through the state Heritage Trust Program.

"We wish for the land to be held and protected in perpetuity for the benefit of current and future citizens of Spartanburg County."
